Republicans in the US Congress are investigating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to a Pennsylvania ammunition plant.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer suspects that Zelensky’s trip was allegedly financed by American taxpayers. And the visit to the plant itself allegedly contributed to the campaigning for the Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Kommer also drew attention to Zelensky’s recent interview, where the president made several comments to Donald Trump and his vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance. In his opinion, this could also contribute to political gain for Kamala Harris and could be considered election interference.
Earlier, US House Speaker Mike Johnson called on President Zelensky to immediately fire Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova. Johnson accused her of being an unreliable and ineffective diplomat.
He said that Zelensky’s visit to a weapons factory in the decisive state of Pennsylvania was politically motivated and intended to help Democrats in the election. And the Republicans were allegedly not invited there on purpose. After Markarova organized such an event, she lost trust in herself among Republicans, Johnson believes.
