Russian Shahed-136 UAVs have begun to be equipped with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite communications system.
A drone with such air defense equipment was shot down on the night of September 25. A photo of the downed drone shows a satellite antenna with serial numbers left on it. This should allow us to investigate the supply channels of the Starlink terminal from the American company SpaceX. This was reported by Defense Express, citing sources.
At the same time, objectively, the question of when Russia would start installing Starlink on its long-range UAVs was only a matter of time. Because the enemy has already experimented with 4G modems with Ukrainian SIM cards, the article says.
It is noted that satellite communications are needed for the Russians to transmit collected information about, for example, the positions of Ukrainian air defense. If the drone is equipped with cameras, it will be able to transmit images as well.
In addition, experts are confident that thanks to the Starlink and the installed camera, the Russians can use the Shahed as an extremely long-range probing munition with the ability to conduct additional reconnaissance and destroy even moving targets.
Recall that in August, the Russian defense industry presented the Murena-300s sea drone-kamikaze, which is likely equipped with a Starlink antenna. The new enemy drone is about the same size as the Ukrainian Magura V5 sea drone.
