Because of the blocking of the railways, European customers could switch to Russian raw materials that are not under sanctions, the company warned.
The Office of the Prosecutor General is trying to block the export of Ferrexpo products to the European Union. This was stated in a company statement published on Wednesday, September 25.
It is indicated that the Prosecutor General’s Office has filed a petition for the third time in the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv to seize the railway vehicles of Ferrexpo. The company, which controls the mining and processing of Poltava, Eristovsky and Bilanovsky plants in the Poltava region, considers these actions illegal and warns of catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian economy due to the impossibility of exporting products to Europe.
Ferrexpo says that due to the blocking of wagons, European customers can switch to Russian raw materials that are not under sanctions. This is fraught with the loss of not only foreign exchange earnings in Ukraine, but also international market positions.
Earlier, in October 2023, 2,382 Ferrexpo wagons were seized at the request of the Office of the Prosecutor General. The Pechersk District Court lifted the arrest in April 2024, recognizing the decision as unfounded, however, during the arrest, the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant suffered losses in the amount of 103.3 million hryvnias.
Ferrexpo claims that the submission of the new petition is illegal because the Pechersk Court no longer has jurisdiction over the case. This is due to the fact that the accusation has already been transferred to another court, and in accordance with Article 170 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine, additional requests for confiscation of property must be considered by the court in question -consider the case on merit. The consideration of a new petition to arrest the carriages is scheduled for September 26 at the Pechersky Court.
“The business again calls on the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office to stop illegal, unlawful actions that are not in accordance with the law, state interest and aimed at creating obstacles to the economic activities of the business, and withdraw the petition for arrest,” said Ferrexpo in its appeal.
We remind you that on September 24, the Office of the Prosecutor General sent to the court an indictment against officials of the Poltava Mining and Processing Plant and representatives of other private enterprises. They were accused of illegal extraction of mineral resources worth 380 million Hryvnia.
At the same time, Ferrexpo said that the investigation called iron ore processing waste – granular screening – “crushed stone” minerals. The company denies the accusations.
