On the evening of September 17, it became known that the absolute world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik was imprisoned in Poland. He was seen in handcuffs at Krakow airport.
Ukrainian world boxing champion Alexander Usik was detained at Krakow airport due to a misunderstanding. This was said by Polish promoter Andrzej Wasilewski in relation to Usyk’s manager Alexander Krasyuk, Przeglad Sportowy reports.
He said that the Ukrainian boxer arrived in Krakow from Kyiv by car and planned to fly to Spain to participate in a training camp.
“However, the border service did not want to let his friend get on the plane. The champion decided that he would not fly without his friend, so they were both detained,” said Vasilevsky.
“Our airport services do not want to let Comrade Usik into the plane without reason and with documents.
Usyk himself called his detention at the Krakow airport “a dispute that was quickly resolved.”
“Dear friends, there was a dispute regalia,” the boxer wrote on social networks X.
Earlier, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports Zhan Belenyuk reported in his Telegram that boxer Alexander Usyk was detained at Krakow airport.
We remind you that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky commented on the high-profile detention of the Ukrainian boxer in Poland and personally spoke with Usik on the phone. The head of state expressed anger at this attitude “to our people and champion.”
