The UN Secretary General considers passage through the Black Sea critical for global food security and keeping world prices under control.
Russia’s strike on a ship carrying wheat from Ukraine is another risk for the economy. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned these attacks – wherever they occur – on civilians and infrastructure, “including the most recent strikes.” The Spokesman of the General Secretary Stephane Dujarric said this on Thursday, September 12, Ukrinform reports.
“This is another example of the danger to the global economy, to global trade, that we see in this region. It is a stark reminder that ships continue to face threats in the Black Sea that threaten the security and sustainability of agricultural exports,” Dujarric said.
According to him, passage through the Black Sea remains “critical for global food security and keeping world prices under control.”
We remind you that today Russian aggressors attacked a ship in the Black Sea carrying grain from Ukraine to Egypt. The Russians attacked a civilian ship immediately after leaving Ukrainian territorial waters. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is waiting for the world’s reaction because wheat and food security should not be a missile target.
Following the hit, Chicago wheat futures rose to $5.9175 a bushel, its highest since July 2024.
