Just like all the animations released by Pixar so far, “Luca” is also part of the famous “Pixar Theory”; find out more!
Just like all the animations released by Pixar, “Luca” is also not left out of the famous “Pixar Theory”, which expresses the idea of the writer and journalist Jon Negroni that all of the studio’s films are connected. With several Easter eggs and references to other films scattered throughout the plot, Luca and Alberto’s story appears solidly in fans’ speculation.
“Luca” begins by establishing itself in the Theory through two Easter Eggs, both of which have appeared in all of the studio’s films released so far: the yellow ball with the star (Pixar’s logo) and the Pizza Planet delivery car from “Toy Story”. As for the films, “Luca” makes reference to “Coco” in the scene where he and Alberto visit the city of Portorosso, and it is possible to see a boat named Helena, the same name as the protagonist Miguel’s grandmother.
Additionally, fans also theorize a possible connection between “Luca” and “Monsters Inc.”, since the central point of the Pixar Theory is the film directed by Pete Docter. Speculation begins with monsters exiled from Monstropolis who, theoretically, are living among humans. They ended up becoming known through mythological tales, such as the “Loch Ness Monster” or “The Abominable Snowman”, the latter making a small appearance in “Monsters, Inc.”
Based on this information, we can relate the fear of contact that the two species share with each other, which may mean that the sea creatures of “Luca” have the same origin as the inhabitants of Monstropolis.
But, until now, the Pixar Theory has never been confirmed by the studio, leaving all speculation as a kind of “study” among fans. To confirm all the existing theories in “Luca”, you can watch the film through Disney+; check out the trailer!
