The first deliveries of the new Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) are expected by the end of this year. They are made in Belfast.
The UK will provide Ukraine with 650 light multi-purpose LMM missiles to strengthen air defense. The British Ministry of Defense announced this on Friday, September 6.
It is indicated that the contract is worth 162 million pounds sterling ($213 million – ed.). This aid is part of the new British government’s commitment to Ukraine.
British Defense Secretary John Healey is expected to formally announce the transfer of this aid package today at a meeting of the Ramstein contact group on the defense of Ukraine.
The first deliveries of the new Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) are expected by the end of this year. They are manufactured by the British company Thales at a plant in Belfast.
It is indicated that LMM missiles are universal – they can be used to intercept enemy targets launched from land, sea or air.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the UK has supplied Ukraine with hundreds of LMM missiles. The Ukrainian Armed Forces use these missiles in the Stormer air defense system and Martlet MANPADS.
It was also reported that by the end of this year, Britain will start supplying Ukraine with artillery shells worth 300 million pounds sterling (almost $400 million – ed.).
It was previously known that Great Britain did not allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles during the attack on the Kursk region, despite increasing pressure from President Vladimir Zelensky.
