The UK will transfer 650 light multi-purpose Martlet missiles to Ukraine.
The contract is worth 192 million euros, and the ammunition is to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. The aid package will be announced by Defense Minister John Gili at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense at the U.S. Air Force Base Ramstein. This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that the first batch of Martlet missiles should arrive in Ukraine before the end of this year. These munitions, created by Thales at a plant in Belfast, are extremely versatile – they can be launched from various platforms on land, sea and in the air.
As is known, the universal small-sized guided multi-purpose missile Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) has a launch weight of 13 kg, a length of 1.3 m and a body diameter of 76 mm. Its feature is the use of a two-channel guidance system – laser beam and infrared in the final guidance section. The cumulative-fragmentation warhead has a mass of 3 kg, and a two-stage solid-fuel engine provides the missile with a speed of 1.5 Mach and a firing range of up to 8 km.
Recall that on August 23, the United States announced the 64th tranche of aid to Ukraine worth $125 million. The new package will include ammunition for HIMARS, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, TOW missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, HMMWV armored vehicles, and small arms ammunition.
