Germany plans to produce 18 IRIS-T SLM batteries, two-thirds of which will be transferred to the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Germany plans to transfer 12 IRIS-T SLM medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters citing a source on Wednesday, September 4.
The interlocutor clarified that this refers to the initial promises of the German side.
“Four units have been delivered. It is expected that two more will be delivered before the end of the year, and six will be delivered later,” the statement said.
It was also noted that Germany plans to purchase six more IRIS-T SLM systems for its Air Force. Moreover, the first such complex was transferred to the needs of the Bundeswehr today. The ceremony was attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Let’s recall that a few days ago Germany transferred the IRIS-T SLS air defense system to Ukraine – this is a short-range system. A total of three such batteries were transferred.
Also in Berlin, the planned amount of military aid to Ukraine until the end of 2024 was announced.
