The costs of purchasing a new system for Romania will be reimbursed from international funds allocated for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of Romania has submitted to the country’s parliament a bill to allocate a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. This was reported by the Romanian edition of Radio Liberty.
The document provides for the transfer of one of the seven Patriot complexes purchased from the United States to version 3+. This is the current configuration of the Patriot system, which is used by both the United States and nearly 20 other allies.
Four Patriots have already arrived in Romania. Two of them have already been implemented. Three more are coming soon.
According to the request of the Supreme Council of National Defense, Romania must negotiate with its NATO allies, including the United States, to receive a new Patriot system to replace the one transferred to Ukraine.
The costs of purchasing a new system will be reimbursed from international funds allocated for Ukraine.
Parliament must also approve the adoption of the new complex, which will cost approximately $60 million in fees and commissions, to be covered from the budget of the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
We remind you that on June 20 it became known that Romania will supply Ukraine with the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.
Before this, Romania discussed for two months the possibility of transferring the Patriot for the needs of Ukraine. It is mentioned that this system can also cover the territory of Romania.
