Russia is trying to defend Kursk region with light infantry.
Thus, on August 24, the Kursk Region administration announced the creation of a volunteer unit “BARS-Kursk”. Future recruits are promised that they will serve only in the Kursk Region of Russia under a six-month contract. This is stated in the new summary of the UK Ministry of Defense, which was published on the social network X.
It is noted that the BARS units were first created in 2021, they were initially intended to provide the Russian Defense Ministry with active reservists with a high level of readiness and training. And since March 2022, volunteers can join the BARS units for short-term service.
The British note that BARS units are mainly light infantry formations that lack integrated artillery or armored vehicles. There are currently more than 30 such units throughout the aggressor country.
The construction indicates that the creation of the BARS-Kursk detachment is almost certainly Moscow’s response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ operation in the Kursk region. However, the British do not believe that these volunteers will be able to support any Russian military activity in the Kursk region over the next month.
Recall that the monitoring project DeepState reported that the Russian army took control of the settlement of Korenevo in the Kursk region. The invaders also advanced along the eastern front in Ukraine.
