The Bavaria’s Prime Minister’s initiative to reduce social assistance for refugees from Ukraine has led to a wave of criticism of the German government.
The initiative to reduce social assistance to Ukrainian refugees from the Prime Minister of Bavaria Marcus Seder, a representative of the Christian Social Union, to the German government has brought sharp criticism. On Tuesday, August 5, reported RBC-Ukraine.
The publication note that he suggested transferring payments to Ukrainians to the level of assistance for asylum applicants, rather than maintaining the current civil assistance format. Such a step, according to Seder, will eliminate inequality in relation to different groups of refugees and stimulate work.
The Sdere proposal has achieved the objections of Social Democrats (SDPG), recalling the coalition agreement, which provides for maintaining assistance for Ukrainian immigrants. Vice-Chancellor Lars Klinkbail called this idea of non-productive and inconsistent with the general government policy. The representative of the SDPG Dirk Visa has noted that instead of saving, it will only bring additional administrative costs.
At the same time, CDU representatives, especially ThoSten Fry, have slightly supported the need for a discussion on this topic, although they emphasized the importance of compliance with the consensus between coalition participants.
The Sedera’s initiative has become a source of political stress in government, which question the stability of coordinated approaches to the support of Ukrainian refugees.
Earlier it was reported that the German government was planning to introduce more strict policies for obtaining social unemployment assistance, received, including refugees from Ukraine.
It has also been known that in Switzerland they offer to cancel protection for Ukrainian refugees.
