Denmark takes over the presidency of the European Union in the second half of next year.
The Danish government will create new ministries: for the European Union, national security and for the implementation of the Green Tripartite Agreement. AR, DR, Politiken wrote about it on Wednesday, August 28.
In particular, Danish Prime Minister Matte Frederiksen announced the plans.
As a reminder to journalists, in the second half of 2025 Denmark will assume the presidency of the European Union, so the government decided to create the post of Minister for European Affairs.
“The green transition is a top priority when we take the presidency. The second important priority is Ukraine,” the prime minister said.
The Department of Homeland Security will be called in to ensure that the country is prepared to protect facilities such as hospitals, power plants, electrical grids and water pipelines. It will also deal with issues of aid to Ukraine.
The Ministry for the Green Tripartite Agreement will be responsible for the implementation of this agreement and reforms in Danish agriculture. This includes, among other things, a carbon tax on livestock emissions, planting 250,000 hectares of forest and acquiring low-lying areas and other land for conservation areas.
Frederiksen did not say who would lead these new departments, nor did he say whether existing ministries (currently 23 in Denmark) would be cut. The entire government will announce it on August 29, when the new cabinet will be officially presented to King Frederick X.
Earlier it was reported that the Danish government announced the transfer of a new aid package to Ukraine worth more than 100 million euros. This includes funds for the acquisition of new military equipment through the Ukrainian defense industry and industrial pool, as well as equipment donations through international partners.
We remind you that Denmark became the first NATO country to purchase Ukrainian weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
