Moscow’s Basmanny Court convicted former diplomat Pyotr Vrublevsky for his words about “killing Russians.”
The Basmanny Court of Moscow sentenced former Ukrainian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Pyotr Vrublevsky in absentia to 6 years in prison. It was reported by Radio Liberty.
The court of the aggressor country found Vrublevsky guilty “of inciting hatred and enmity on national and linguistic grounds.”
In August 2022, a truncated fragment of an interview with Vrublevsky was circulated in the Russian propaganda media. In it, the diplomat, speaking about the war unleashed by Moscow, said that “the more we (Ukrainians – ed.) kill Russians today, the less our children will have to kill them.” In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan expressed its protest.
At the same time, Kazakhstan rejected Russia’s request to expel the Ukrainian ambassador, accusing Moscow of using an inappropriate tone in relations between “equal strategic partners.”
In October of the same year, President Zelensky removed Vrublevsky from the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Kazakhstan.
At the beginning of 2024, criminal proceedings were opened against Vrublevsky in Russia; he was added to the list of terrorists and extremists.
In March, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the former ambassador in absentia, and at the same time the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs placed him on the international wanted list.
Let’s recall that in 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador to the country, Pyotr Vrublevsky, to protest against his statements about the Russians.
