The flood that engulfed the town of Feni and its surrounding areas left 11 areas flooded and forced thousands of people to seek safety.
In the city of Feni in southeastern Bangladesh, 11 districts were flooded, submerging large parts of the city of nearly 1.5 million under water.
People, holding their belongings high above their heads, slowly made their way to safety through muddy water that reached chest level.
Although Bangladesh is used to floods and typhoons, this disaster took residents by surprise. Locals blame India for the crash, saying the country released water from the Dumbur dam in neighboring Tripura state without warning. In response, India attributed the victory to excessive rains and denied any deliberate action.
Floods in both countries have killed at least 36 people and affected more than 4.5 million, according to CNN. Almost 200 thousand residents of Bangladesh and India were forced to leave their homes.
It was earlier reported that the death toll during student protests in Bangladesh on July 19 has risen to 50 people.
