30 years ago, the man left for the United States, has American and Russian citizenship. Sudzha’s mother, who is now 89, lived with him. Oleg says that when the fighting in the Kursk region began, he was in Moscow, there was no longer any contact with Sudzha, so he urgently left for his mother.
They lived together in a basement in Sudzha for a week until they were taken to Sumy by Ukrainian soldiers at their request. While the people are receiving medical care in one of the Sumy hospitals, they say they feel “not strangers.” After the war, they want to return home:
