The level of production of grain and oilseed crops decreased by 12-15%.
Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky told Ukrinform about this.
According to him, the reason for the decrease in yield was difficult weather conditions – a cold spring and a dry summer.
But, in his opinion, the impact of the heat on the early group harvest was not drastic. The southeastern regions suffered by 10-15%, but the central and northern regions had a lower figure. On average, the harvest of early crops in the country is expected to be 5% less.
More negative consequences are expected for the late group (corn, soybeans and sunflower). It looks like each of these crops will be negatively affected. In most regions, the yield will be reduced to 15%, – said Vysotsky.
He stressed that such indicators are negative, but from the point of view of the scale of production and availability for domestic consumers and food security, there is no reason to worry.
Vysotsky assured that there will be enough products. However, we should think about support for farmers in these difficult conditions.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) updated its estimate of the potential harvest of grains and oilseeds in 2024, reducing it by 2.8 million tons to 71.8 million tons.
Another reduction in the harvest forecast for the new season was caused by hot and dry weather in Ukraine, which had a negative impact on the potential yield of late grain and oilseed crops.
