The Ukrainian embassy in Minsk may be closed following statements by dictator Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the Chargé d’affaires for Ukraine in Belarus, Olga Timush, to whom they declared “a strong protest and handed over a corresponding note in connection with the violation of the border of the Republic of Belarus by a group of unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of Ukraine.” This was reported on August 10 by the state agency “Belta” with reference to the press service of the diplomatic department.
The Ukrainian envoy was warned that the Belarusian side “reserves the right to take retaliatory steps to protect its territory.” In particular, Minsk threatened to close the Ukrainian embassy if it fails to prevent “provocations.”
Let us recall that today the self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Ukraine allegedly violated the country’s airspace on August 9. According to him, at an altitude of 1.5 km and a range of 6.5 km, the Belarusian air defense destroyed several targets over the country’s territory.
Subsequently, the dictator ordered the reinforcement of the Belarusian troop group near the border with Ukraine. Special forces, ground and missile units were sent to the Gomel and Mozyr directions. Polonez missile systems and Iskander complexes will also be deployed in these areas.
