The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement on the situation in the Kursk region, in which it admitted that fighting was taking place around Sudzha.
The Russian Ministry of Defense admitted that the fighting in the Kursk region has reached the city of Sudzha, where the station where Russian gas passes from Ukraine to Europe is located. This was stated in a statement from the department on Friday, August 9.
“During the day, the active actions of units of the North group of forces and the arrival of reserves, army aviation strikes, and artillery fire prevented attempts by enemy units to conduct raids deep into Russian territory in the direction of Kursk,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said. .
The department says that they “carried out a fire defeat” of Ukrainian fighters’ manpower and equipment near the settlements of Daryino, Gogolevka, Milovoy in the Sudzhansky district, in the western outskirts of Sudzha, as well as near Nikolsky in Kurchatovsky district.
Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense did not report any military operations in Sudzha.
The Russians claimed equipment damage in the Yuzhny area in Korenevsky district and in the area of the Martynovka settlement in Sudzhansky district.
In addition, the Russian military claimed that it attacked reserves in the Sumy region using aircraft and missile systems.
We remind you that on August 7, information appeared in the media that the Ukrainian Armed Forces took control of the Sudzha gas measuring station in the Kursk region of Russia.
The Sudzha gas metering station is a key facility for supplying Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine. Today it is the only point where Russian gas enters Ukraine for its transport to Europe.
Amid the fighting in the Kursk region, gas prices in Europe jumped 5.5% to 38.7 euros/MWh ($445 per 1,000 cubic meters), the highest value since December 2023.
