During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers established that the suspect, an acting deputy of one of the village councils, was mobilized and served in one of the military units in Ternopil.
The National Police say that the man gained access to official documentation and entered false information into letters of justification for volunteers to travel abroad to bring in humanitarian aid for the military.
Instead of the real names of volunteer drivers, he entered the details of those who evaded the order into the documents.
Subsequently, on the basis of forged letters of justification, such persons were included in the automated information system and they freely left Ukraine, but did not return.
Thus, during July 2022 – January 2023, he helped 74 military-liable men cross the border.
At least 37 men have died in Tisza since the start of the full-scale war, including 17 since the beginning of this year, said Lesya Fedorova, a spokeswoman for the Mukachevo border detachment.
The actual number of victims may be higher, as it is not always possible to find bodies quickly. Many of those who were unable to cross the Tisza may have remained under rocks or in tree roots, or were unable to notify anyone of their plans so that the body could be found, Fedorova noted.
