The beginning of negotiations does not mean “making concessions”, but it is necessary to have a common decision “on the territories”.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that on the issue of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, “the point has been reached when they have to start.” He said this in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde.
“We are now approaching the point where negotiations must begin. The reality is that these negotiations must involve China, the countries of the global South and Russia,” Stubb said.
He emphasized that China has a great opportunity to help end the war. Stubb also noted that it is necessary to talk about conflict resolution, “and not just about appeasement.”
He also believes that now there is “almost no desperation in the situation we had in the spring” because of the US aid blockade. He also noted the improvement in the delivery of equipment to Kyiv and the lack of a Russian breakthrough on the battlefield.
“Russia, according to our information, is not progressing, and its losses are greater than before. Putin thought the West would be tired of the war. He thought he could wait for the American elections. But he was wrong, ” Stubb added.
He explained that starting negotiations does not mean “making concessions,” but it is necessary to have a common decision “on the territories.” Stubb also said that the negotiation process should consider the four elements of the peace formula.
Earlier, Stubb said, against the background of the attack on the Russian Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region, that the Finns should get used to the fact that the war will approach the borders of their country.
