The sale of shells in Kyiv directly or through third parties contradicts the government’s position, the country’s Ministry of Defense said.
The head of the Slovak Ministry of Defense, Robert Kaliniak, insisted on increasing the production of ammunition. Despite the fact that the government refused to arm Ukraine, Slovak shells still hit the front. This was reported by Bloomberg news agency.
Slovakia plans to increase production of large-caliber ammunition from 125,000 to 200,000 next year. Bratislava does not have full control over where ammunition produced in Slovakia ends up – consumers decide for themselves what to do with the ammunition they buy.
Kalinyak denied that the sale of Slovak-made shells in Ukraine directly or through third parties contradicts the government’s position.
“Our political declaration says that we will not provide free military aid to Ukraine, because by doing so we will support the conflict. But we will not limit defense production when it supports the gross domestic product, because by doing so, it is harmful I am in Slovakia’s interests,” the Slovak official said.
Kaliniak said Slovakia’s defense industry should account for about 2% of economic growth. This is an opportunity to improve the economy and public finances.
