The most popular countries accepting asylum applications are Germany, Spain, Italy and France.
In April 2024, 76,695 people applied for asylum for the first time from non-EU countries. This is 12% higher than in April 2023. Eurostat reported this on Sunday, July 21.
It is indicated that the largest number of relevant statements came from Syrians, Venezuelans and Afghan citizens:

These countries together received 76% of all applications from first-time applicants:

In 2023, 8,565 migrant deaths were recorded worldwide, which is 20% more than the previous year. The previous highest number was recorded in 2016 (8,084 deaths). This is confirmed by data from the Disappearing Migrants project of the UN International Organization for Migration.
In many cities in France, thousands of people protested against the adopted immigration law, which provides stricter rules against migrants.
