The Russians recently threatened once again to flood Kyiv by blowing up the dams of the Kyiv and Kanev hydroelectric power stations. However, hydrologist and geographer Viktor Vishnevsky assures that this is impossible even theoretically.

According to him, the main part of the city is located at an altitude of 140-150 meters, and the Kiev reservoir has an elevation of 103 meters.
In addition, he noted that the Kyiv reservoir has the same area as Kyiv itself, which is approximately 900 square kilometers. Therefore, even if such a volume of water were to break through, it would still not be enough to flood.
Of course, the water will move down and calculations of possible flooding were made, but also in a theoretical aspect, when, for example, instead of a hydroelectric complex, a hole is formed in width, for example, 100 or 200, 300 meters. If suddenly a hole of 100 meters is formed, then, according to calculations, Kyiv will not actually be flooded, with the exception of a small territory that gravitates towards the Dnieper itself. In particular, we are talking about the Lower Gardens, Vishnevsky added.
The hydrologist also points out that the Kiev hydroelectric power station is quite strong, its turbines are not located in an open space, but deep underground. And even a missile strike would be virtually impossible to destroy them.
