Nearly 80% of US Democrats would approve of Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential candidate if Biden decided not to run.
US President Joe Biden will soon be convinced not to participate in the election and will withdraw his candidacy. That’s what some top US Democrats think, Axios reports, citing anonymous comments from top Democratic Party representatives.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, increasing pressure from the leaders of the Democratic Party in Congress and arguments from close friends will finally convince Biden to abandon participation in the elections, and this may happen as early as this weekend.
The leading party, friends and donors of Biden’s campaign, against the backdrop of disappointing sociology for the president, believe that he has no chance of winning.
In private conversations, the president is said to be convinced that if he pushes himself and goes to the polls, he may suffer a crushing defeat. This pressure has intensified in recent days.
“He is faced with a choice – either go down in history as an outstanding person, or make sure that there will never be a presidential library named after Biden. I pray that he does the right thing, and he is passionate about this decision, ” said an anonymous close friend of Biden.
An Economist/YouGov poll released on July 18 found that 79% of US Democrats would approve of electing Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate if incumbent President Joe Biden decides not to run. The Hill reported it.

45% of Democrats surveyed believe Biden should withdraw his candidacy so another candidate can run for the Democratic nomination, compared to 41% who say the opposite.
Among those who favor withdrawing Biden’s candidacy, 68% argue that they have doubts about his health and mental function because of his age, and 23% say they have doubts about his chances of defeating Trump.
