The sharp drop in prices is due to several reasons. First of all, it is the transfer of cultural production in Ukraine.
Prices for local watermelons in Ukraine continue to drop rapidly almost every day. This week, established prices are at least 35% lower than last week. This was reported by EastFruit project analysts on Thursday, July 18.
Last week, the average wholesale price for watermelons dropped to 15 UAH/kg, which is the lowest level in the past three seasons.
On Thursday, July 18, wholesale quantities of watermelons on the domestic market could be purchased in the range of 5-14 UAH/kg, depending on the quality, variety and quantity of the offered batch.
The sharp drop in prices is due to several reasons. First of all, it is the transfer of cultural production in Ukraine.
Farmers also explained the drop in prices by the sharp increase in the supply of local watermelons in the market. In particular, due to the hot weather, the rate of ripening of watermelons is accelerated significantly.
While the abnormal drought in the southern regions negatively affects the quality of watermelons in the fields, which also complicates the rate of price decline.
In addition, an additional burden on the market is provided by stable supplies of watermelons from Central Asian countries, where these products are more accessible and of higher quality.
Since the beginning of the week, wholesale quantities of watermelons have been sold at almost the highest prices in countries in the project’s monitoring region. More expensive products are sold only on the Polish market.
We remind you that the abnormal heat in Ukraine affects the early grain harvest, but it is not critical. At the same time, this weather is dangerous for late grains, sunflowers and soybeans.
Let’s remember that on the third ten days of June the grain harvest began in Ukraine. This process was accompanied by shelling of Russia, burning the entire fields.
