PrivatBank co-founder Gennady Bogolyubov left the country using a pensioner’s passport from Volyn.
The former co-owner of PrivatBank, as well as an associate of the oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, Gennady Bogolyubov, left the country using the passport of a 67-year-old resident of Volyn. It was reported by Ukrainian truth on Tuesday, July 9.
Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that they have located and interrogated a pensioner, Nikolai Syumak, whose passport was allegedly used by Bogolyubov.
The pensioner himself told reporters that he lost his passport in the spring of 2022. He also assured that he did not leave Ukraine on June 24 of this year and was at home.
According to investigators, 46-year-old border guard Vladimir Makarenko helped Bogolyubov cross the border illegally with someone else’s document. He is now in custody and in jail on suspicion.
UP interlocutors said that Bogolyubov was prompted to use someone else’s passport by the fact that in the border guard system there is a “flag” for him, and then his departure must be approved of border service leadership.
While Bogolyubov is trying to get political asylum in the UK and Austria, the publication writes.
Earlier, the media reported that Bogolyubov left Ukraine, probably on suspicion from the Bureau of Economic Security in the case of PrivatBank. The State Bureau of Investigation has arrested the border guard who helped the businessman escape from Ukraine, and declared Bogolyubov a suspect in absentia.
Bogolyubov’s press service says he left legally using his Ukrainian passport. They noticed that the businessman is 62 years old, he has five minor children, which means he can legally go abroad.
As you know, Bogolyubov lost the trial in the PrivatBank case. He has been trying to claim parts of the financial institution as his own since 2020.
