The Kremlin leader promised the Prime Minister of India to return all Indians sent by Russia to the war against Ukraine.
Indian citizens who signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense and participated in the war against Ukraine will be released and will be able to return home. This was reported by the Indian television channel NDTV on Tuesday, July 9.
It is noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Moscow on a two-day official visit, raised this issue in a conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, after which he took appropriate that decision.
In February of this year, Indian authorities announced that they were trying to repatriate 20 citizens captured in the war in Ukraine. In March, seven Indians recorded a video message in which they said they were tricked into joining the Russian army.
In May, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of four people suspected of participating in a large human trafficking network, whose members recruited young men to work in Russia, where in upon arrival they were forced to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Earlier, the media reported about 100 Indian citizens who signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced the death of two Indian nationals recruited into the Russian army and called for a halt to any further recruitment of its nationals.
