The Ukrainian side has launched an international platform for the return of civilian captives and hopes that more countries will join it.
37 countries have officially joined the international coalition for the return of Ukrainian children. The Ukrainian side continues to negotiate with potential participants in the international coalition. Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets said this to Suspilna on Saturday, June 15, at the Peace Summit in Switzerland.
“The fourth clause of the Peace Formula is that everyone should be completely united, who can be against children living with their parents without violating the rights of prisoners of war?”
Lubinets noted that he hopes that those countries now continue to have good relations with the Russian Federation of a different nature – economic, diplomatic, political – after hearing from the Ukrainian delegation, after what they saw at the Peace Summit , after official bilateral meetings and unofficial sideline meetings, is involved in a new way in the process of returning Ukrainian citizens from Russian territory.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the political will of a large number of countries to return Ukrainian citizens from captivity can yield results.
“Parents of deported Ukrainian children do not have time to wait until we develop new strategies, new mechanisms, when we hold additional meetings, that is, they expect results right now. The every day in captivity in Russia is another day in the highest horror under torture, under psychological, physical, sexual torture, which, unfortunately, was done by the representatives of the Russian Federation, therefore, time is against us,” said the Commissioner for Human Rights.
