Military service in Germany would be voluntary, but “with compulsory elements if necessary.”
Russia may attack a NATO ally or another neighboring state in 2029. ZDF Heute reported this on Wednesday, June 12, citing German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
In particular, Boris Pistorius, speaking at a press conference in Berlin, said that “the situation has changed compared to what it was a few years ago.”
“We must assume that in 2029 Russia will be able to attack one of the NATO countries. Therefore, we must restore deterrence,” Pistorius said.
The minister said that in the near future the size of the German army should increase from 181 thousand people to 203 thousand. In addition, the Ministry of Defense plans to involve about 200 thousand more reservists in military exercises.
Pistorius emphasized that the Bundeswehr will recruit the “strongest, most prepared and motivated.”
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany intended to modernize its army to be ready to fight a war.
Let’s remember that earlier the media wrote that the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) was preparing for a possible conflict between Russia and NATO and modeled the scenario of a Russian attack on NATO.
