NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke about his meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Budapest will not block the decision of the upcoming Alliance summit in Washington, but it certainly does not want to join in supporting and training the Ukrainian military. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this on Wednesday, June 12, writes European Pravda.
“Orban said that Hungary will not participate in these initiatives, I said that I accept this position,” said the secretary.
Stoltenberg added that Budapest has pledged to abide by all NATO commitments and will continue to contribute funds to the Alliance’s general budget.
The Secretary General of NATO indicated that in the meeting with Orban he spoke about the goals of NATO.
“The purpose of NATO is peace, and the Alliance is designed to prevent war and conflict – but to do so through credible deterrence and by preventing Moscow or other adversaries from miscalculating our ability to defend all allies,” Stoltenberg said during a visit to Budapest.
“I am also very confident that Hungary will agree to the statements that will be announced at the NATO summit, reaffirming NATO’s core values and goals,” he added.
