As a result, Ukrainian pilots will be ready to fly these aircraft by the end of the year. The country’s President Emmanuel Macron stated this in an interview with French media, Voice of America reports.
In an interview, Macron linked the war in Ukraine with the events of 1944 in Normandy, assuring that Europe will not weaken in its support for Ukraine.
He did not specify exactly how many fighters France will provide, but said that they intend to train pilots by the end of the year.
Typically you need five to six months. So there will be pilots by the end of the year. The pilots will undergo training in France, Macron noted.
The Mirage 2000 is a multi-role single-engine fighter jet. By 2030, France intends to replace them with new Rafale fighters. According to Reuters, Paris is also trying to convince other countries that have Mirage aircraft to supply them to Ukraine.
