Witnesses note that the man had been drinking alcohol a few days before and had signs of minor injuries, the TCC statement said.
On May 29, a man with multiple injuries in a coma was taken to the Zvyagel hospital, where he died a few days later. The family states that they have information that Sergei was beaten at the local regional department of the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support.
The Zhytomyr Regional TsK and SP deny this information and say that the man died as a result of an epileptic attack. The police are investigating.
Sergei’s father Nikolai Kovalchuk told Obshchestvenny correspondents that his son was killed.
The son was killed and that’s it. What can I say here? According to the conclusion, he has a fracture of the vault and skull bone there. He was brought to the hospital on May 29. We didn’t see him when we came to serve the summons; our son lived separately from us. We know that at five in the morning we came to him from the TCC. There was no time for it. There is a second security department, and he was brought from there. We arrived in Zvyagel at 11 am, my child was already in intensive care. He was there for three and a half days. We contacted the police. The police opened proceedings. They (at the TCC – ed.) said that they did not beat him, it was an epileptic attack, because his son suffered from epilepsy. I will seek justice, the community asks,” says Sergei’s father Nikolai Kovalchuk.
4 days ago they came to him, as they usually serve summonses, and took him from his house. He was gone for a day, at two o’clock in the morning he was brought to Vydoloch, for another 4 days he was in intensive care in Zvyagelo, he was already dead, only the machine was breathing, he himself was in a coma. This is already the fourth or fifth such case for us,” said Nadezhda, a resident of Baranovka.
According to neighbors, Sergei lived on his own, worked seasonally at a local sawmill and earned extra money helping people. He was not liable for military service because he suffered from epilepsy.
The head of the resuscitation and intensive care department of the Zvyagel hospital, Anatoly Bortnik, told Public that Sergei Kovalchuk was admitted to their medical institution on the morning of May 29.
He was delivered by ambulance from Baranovka. He was taken to our department and immediately hospitalized. Upon admission, the condition was extremely serious, the patient was in a coma with a diagnosis of “closed craniocerebral injury, linear fracture of the parietal bone, right-sided intracranial hematoma, focal brain contusion, diffuse brain contusion, fracture of the lower jaw, pneumonia. or vomit.” The patient was immediately sent for surgery. Then for 4 days he was on a ventilator in extremely serious condition,” said Anatoly Bortnik.
Sergei Kovalchuk died on June 2 in the hospital without regaining consciousness.
On the evening of June 4, on its Facebook page, the Zhytomyr Regional TCC and Joint Venture published a refutation of the accusations that TCC employees were involved in the death of Sergei Kovalchuk.
The post says that Kovalchuk died as a result of an epileptic seizure.
On May 28, 2024, Sergei K., liable for military service, was delivered to 2 departments of the Zvyagel RTTC and SP to undergo military training. Witnesses note that the man had been drinking alcohol a few days before and had signs of minor injuries.
On the morning of May 29, the man was “seized” by an epileptic attack caused by prolonged alcohol consumption. He was given first emergency medical aid and an ambulance was called. The investigative team at the scene of the incident classified the incident as self-mutilation. Unfortunately, on June 2, 2024, the man died in hospital from injuries received during an epileptic attack. The investigators who carried out the examination noted that there was no external physical influence on the man.
In a comment to the Public, Ivanna Siletska, Deputy Head of the Communications Department of the Main Police Department in the Zhytomyr Region, informed that the police are conducting a pre-trial investigation into this case.
