Romanian law enforcement officials detained a Ukrainian citizen while trying to hand over 20 thousand dollars to customs officials at the port of Constanta. This was announced by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate of Romania on Saturday, June 1.
According to investigators, in May, a Ukrainian allegedly promised a Romanian customs officer $90,000 several times to facilitate the importation of four containers with a “famous brand of shoes” into Romania.
“The defendant promised to transfer $20,000 per container for three containers, and $30,000 for the fourth,” the report said.
A man was detained yesterday while trying to hand over the first 20 thousand dollars. Now he will be brought to the Constanta court, where the prosecutor’s office will apply for an arrest within 30 days.
