The propagandist openly states in his report that the Russian military is dropping illegal gas grenades on Ukrainian positions.
The journalist for the Russian propaganda publication RT Andrei Filatov released a video of how the invaders used chemical weapons, which the Kremlin officially denies. The Astra Telegram channel highlighted the leaked evidence of the use of prohibited weapons on Tuesday, May 28.
Before this video, in which Filatov admitted the use of chemical weapons by the Russian Armed Forces – gas grenades, was published by the official telegram channel RT.
“Here you can see the gas mask hanging from the machine gunner from under the cartridges. Here is the gas grenade we dropped,” Filatov said in his report.
As Astra said, Filatov showed what was likely a Russian RG-VO gas grenade (a hand grenade is a toxic substance).
According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, RG-VO contains the poisonous gas chloroacetophenone. This gas is on List 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). Symptoms of chloroacetophenone poisoning include excessive vomiting and lacrimation, as well as skin irritation.
Filatov released a video of how Russian troops “shot” a Ukrainian machine gunner from a position in the Avdeevka area.
According to the propagandist, the Ukrainian position was taken by Russian troops on December 1, 2023. The RT post states that “previously it was impossible to publish these frames for security reasons.” At the same time, for the first time, Ukraine reported the use of RG-VO grenades by the Russian army in the same month.
It was previously reported that Ukraine has reported to the OSCE about hundreds of chemical attacks by Russia, which is a violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
It was also reported that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) considers data on Russia’s use of chemical weapons insufficiently proven.
