European countries should start cooperation instead of competition on the issue of air defense systems, said Donald Tusk.
The heads of government of Poland and Greece sent a letter to the European Commission on Thursday calling for the creation of a pan-European air defense system. This is what Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, Reuters reports.
“I sent a letter to the European Commission with (Greece) Prime Minister Mitsotakis about a common European defense policy. There is already a very positive reaction from the European Commission about making missile defense a common task for Europe, because it’s a huge amount of money.” “We are preparing for war not because this war will happen, but so that it will not happen,” explained the Polish official.
According to him, European countries should stop competing when creating their air defense systems and start cooperation, including joint investments in the defense industry.
“We need less fragmentation and joint projects, for example, the air defense shield proposed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Donald Tusk,” wrote European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on the social network X.
Earlier, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov bluntly stated that Europe poses a threat to Russia. According to him, it is the actions of the European Union countries that “force us to do what we are doing now.”
