The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) has increased business rates. This is done to increase the volume of imports at night. In the evening hours, maximum tariffs will increase by 20%, and at night during certain hours, prices for light will more than double. This is stated in the decision made during the commission meeting on May 20.
The following maximum price limits are set in advance per day:
- from 00.00 to 7.00 and from 11.00 to 17.00 – 5 thousand 600 UAH/MWh (now 3 thousand UAH/MWh)
- from 7.00 to 11.00 and from 23.00 to 24.00 – 6 thousand 900 UAH/MWh. (now from 7.00 to 8.00 – 5 thousand 600 UAH/MWh)
- from 17.00 to 23.00 – 9 thousand UAH/MW-hour (now – 7 thousand 500 UAH/MW-hour)
The minimum limit price remains at 10 UAH/MWh.
On a balancing market:
- from 00.00 to 7.00 – 6 thousand 600 UAH/MW-hour (now 4 thousand UAH/MW-hour)
- from 7.00 to 17.00 and from 23.00 to 24.00 the price remains 8 thousand 250 UAH/MWh.
- from 17.00 to 23.00 – 10 thousand UAH/MW-hour (now 8 thousand 250 UAH/MW-hour)
- from 23.00 to 00.00 – 8 thousand 250 UAH/MW-hour (now 4 thousand UAH/MW-hour).
The new prices will take effect from June 1. NEURC noted that such a decision will stabilize the energy system and increase imports at night.
Let us recall that at the beginning of May, Gosenergonadzor stated that they were considering the possibility of increasing electricity tariffs in 2024 in order to renew energy facilities. The head of the department, Ruslan Slobodyan, explained that since a really large financial resource is needed to restore electric power facilities, it would be advisable to do the first stage of such an increase already in 2024.
