Doctors say the Slovak prime minister’s life is not in danger after the assassination attempt.
Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said on Sunday that the recovery of the country’s Prime Minister Robert Fico after the assassination attempt will take at least several weeks, Aktuality reports.
He confirmed that there are no plans to bring the prime minister to Bratislava in the near future, and that he remains under the supervision of doctors at the hospital in Banska Bystrica.
“We believe that the prime minister is physically strong enough to believe in his speedy recovery, although we can count on it for a few weeks,” Kaliniak said.
The minister also said that from Monday he will no longer inform the public about the state of Fico’s health, but regular statements will be published by the hospital in Banska Bystrica.
Doctors are expected to release new information daily at noon local time.
According to the hospital’s deputy director Milan Urbani, based on this morning’s consultation, doctors can say that the prime minister’s life is not in danger.
“However, his condition is still very serious and he needs a long time and peace of mind to recover. We believe that everything will go in a good direction,” he said.
Let’s remember that on May 15, there was an assassination attempt on Robert Fico in the city of Gandlova, located 150 kilometers from Bratislava.
The attacker was detained at the scene. He turned out to be Juraj Tsintula, 71 years old. The man was motivated by political motives.
