According to them, the mobilization of drivers involved in transportation will lead to paralysis of the transport sector. The picketers called the new law on improving mobilization, which came into force on May 18, “draconian.”
The guys joyfully responded to this strike, so that we could be heard by these guys who ride to Kyiv in Mercedes for 200 thousand dollars, who are fenced off from this war, their children and grandchildren abroad… So that they can see that this country rests on us ordinary citizens and not on fat-bellied bribe-takers,” the Intent publication quotes one of the protesters.
According to protesters on social networks, the mobilization of delivery drivers will lead to paralysis of the transport sector.
Near Savranye, Odessa region, the highway to Kyiv is blocked, according to subscribers of the Public.
Representative of the National Police Elena Berezhnaya, in a comment to the Public, said that some of the truckers gathered in the Kirovograd region, and some in the Odessa region. Due to their protests, the highway is partially blocked – one lane is open.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky signed the law on April 16. It was published on April 17; according to the laws, the document comes into force one month from the day following the day of its publication, that is, from May 18.
One of the most important innovations of the law is that those liable for military service must update their credentials within 60 days. Fines provided for violation of military registration rules by conscripts, those liable for military service and reservists will increase.
In particular, it will be mandatory to check the documents of men eligible for a deferment from conscription. And not necessarily for drivers transporting medical cargo and humanitarian aid, international transportation of goods and passengers.
At the end of April, the Association of International Road Carriers complained that TCC employees were “forcibly removing drivers from flights and mobilizing them at the border.”
The Transcarpathian Regional Terrestrial Center for Recruitment and Social Support responded:
When inspected at a checkpoint, it is not always possible to check all military registration data on the spot if the men have not taken care in advance to have the appropriate documents with marks confirming the right to a deferment, removal from military registration or reservation. In such cases, they are asked to go to the TCC to clarify the data.
According to the vice-president of the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine, Vladimir Balin, before the law on improving mobilization came into force, international carriers booked less than 5% of workers. The remaining drivers refuse to go on flights.
