American authorities suspect that the student protests that escalated in late April and early May 2024 in New York were organized by radical Islamist groups.

The Wall Street Journal writes about this.
Since April 18, more than two thousand people have been detained during anti-Semitic protests at 25 American universities. A critical situation has developed at the elite Columbia University in New York: students there destroyed the campus building, and police detained about 300 people.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the protests at Columbia University were the result of a plan that lasted at least several months. Some students were trained in various radical groups, such as Black Panther or National Students for Justice in Palestine. These movements are banned at a number of universities, including Columbia.
In addition, some students met with members of the Samidoun organization, banned in Germany, which openly promotes anti-Semitic views and denies Israel’s right to exist.
There is nothing wrong with being a Hamas member, being a Hamas leader, being a Hamas fighter. These are the people who are on the front line of defending Palestine,” Samidoun US coordinator Charlotte Cates said at a meeting with Columbia University students.
This conversation took place in March of this year as part of a training organized by the students themselves. The university administration banned the meeting twice, so the students decided to hold it online.
Political scientist Robert Pape of the University of Chicago talks about the “successful exploitation” of students and believes that the protests could continue throughout the summer and fall; in addition, according to him, their geography will expand.
