The Bundeswehr was unable to prevent the leak of confidential information because of this security gap.
The German Bundeswehr has leaked data about secret video meetings. The secret information can be found online in the public domain, Die Zeit reports.
A German newspaper conducted an investigation in which it found that data on secret online meetings of the Bundeswehr has been available on the Internet for months.
The meetings were held through the Webex video conferencing system. The platform belongs to the American concern Cisco.
The publication found data on 6,000 Internet conferences. But the actual number of meetings about which information is available online may be higher.
There are no recordings of press conferences themselves on the Internet, but one can find their schedule, duration, meeting topics, and the name of the organizer. Journalists have been added to the personal video conference accounts of many Bundeswehr employees, such as the commander of the German Air Force. Accounts are not protected by passwords.
Die Zeit writes that the leak could be serious because some meetings were designated as secret. The Bundeswehr was unable to prevent the leak of confidential information because of this security gap.
Germany has not officially confirmed the leak, but the Bundeswehr only stopped using the Webex platform on May 3 after journalists sent a request.
We remind you that earlier the German Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador due to a series of cyber attacks directed against members of the ruling Social Democratic Party, as well as against the defense and technology sectors of the German economy.
