FCPE demands a reassessment of school benefits

Going back to school promises to be more expensive for parents than usual. Because inflation raises all prices, including school goods. Faced with this trend, the Federation of Parents’ Councils (FCPE) has called on the government to increase the school-based allowance (ARS) paid to volatile households for back-to-school purchases.

«Prices can vary from 10 to 40% depending on the supply“So, on Tuesday, franceinfo’s microphone disturbed FCPE Secretary General Eric Labast. Several manufacturers have indeed announced that prices are expected to rise, such as Oxford, which specializes in laptops. The price of these products can increase by 40% due to the increase in the cost of raw materials. “Ohn suspects an increase of 5% to 10%, which is very important for some families“, – later mentions Eric Labasti.

Review the calendar

FCPE also calls for a review of this assistance payment schedule. According to the Student Parents ‘Federation, the ARS will need to top up the families’ bank accounts from July to enable them to make purchases sooner. According to him, it should give an opportunity to better overcome inflation and forecast expenses. Because currently the ARS is paid in late August.

Back to school benefits have been paid annually to about 3 million low-income families since 1974. The amount varies depending on the age of the children in the household. It currently stands at € 376.98 for children aged 6 to 11, € 397.78 for children aged 11 to 14 և € 411 and € 56 for children aged 15 to 18. It is planned to pay for accessories, clothes and books for children starting the new school year.
