Germany will be able to transfer the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine no earlier than the end of June. The delivery may coincide with the transfer of F-16 fighters. This was reported by The New York Times on Friday, May 3.
It was noted that on May 6, approximately 70 Ukrainian military personnel will begin six weeks of Patriot exercises at an air base in eastern Germany.
After the exercise, German troops need about two days to bring the launchers, radars and other components to a logistics center in Poland and hand them over to Ukrainian officials, who must deliver them across the border, wrote the NYT.
So, the Patriot air defense system can arrive in Ukraine no earlier than the end of June. At the same time, delivery of the Patriot may coincide with the delivery of the F-16.
“Although Ukraine has been asking for these aircraft almost since the beginning of the war in February 2022, their delivery is expected only this summer – and initially only in small quantities,” the material said.
We remind you that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, said that the EU member countries have to take the Patriot anti-aircraft system from the hangars where they are ” just in case” and transfer them to Ukraine.
