Although the pace of Iran’s uranium enrichment has slowed somewhat since late last year, Iran is still enriching at a higher rate.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, plans to visit Iran on May 6-8, where he is scheduled to participate in an international nuclear conference. Reuters wrote this on Tuesday, April 30, citing Iran’s Mehr news agency.
It is implied that Grossi has some official meetings planned.
“Grossi will meet with Iranian officials in Tehran before attending the International Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology, which is taking place in Isfahan,” the Mehr news agency reported.
Earlier in the day, the head of the IAEA said he was planning to visit Tehran to overcome “disengagement” in relations between the agency and the Islamic Republic.
Grossi also said that although the pace of uranium enrichment in Iran has slowed somewhat since late last year, Iran is still enriching at a higher rate of about 7 kg of uranium per month up to 60 % purity.
“Enrichment to 60% brings uranium closer to weapons grade and not necessary for commercial use in nuclear energy production. Iran denies aspirations to have nuclear weapons, but no other state has reached at this level,” Grossi pointed out.
According to a 2015 agreement with world states that is no longer in force, Iran can only enrich uranium to 3.67%. Since President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions, Iran has moved beyond nuclear limits.
Earlier, the media reported that Iran’s nuclear program was military-oriented. Information from the intelligence services of the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Denmark indicates that Tehran has plans to create nuclear weapons.
Israel is prepared to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons by any means necessary
