Lithuania is ready to help Ukraine return men of mobilization age to the country, but awaits a regional solution.
The return of Ukrainian men of military age from Latvia was discussed at the level of the countries’ presidents at their last meeting in Vilnius. This was said by the National Security Advisor to the President of Lithuania Kestutis Budrys, reports Delfi.
“To the extent and in the form in which Ukraine considers it necessary, we, of course, will talk to them and help in the implementation that this is not even discussed, like other needs of Ukraine,” he explained.
The adviser to the President of Lithuania believes that in order for such a political decision to be effectively implemented, it “must be at least a regional solution” at the interstate level.
“If we introduce stricter living and working conditions in Lithuania for Ukrainian citizens who evade their obligations in Ukraine, and if they can move to a neighboring country and there is no such regime there, how effective will it be ?an imitation,” – said Burdis.
We remind you that the former Minister of Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamisz said that his country will help Ukraine to return those responsible for military service. At the same time, the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs promised to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees without passports.
The Lithuanian government also allowed the possibility to help Ukraine in the matter of returning men of military age.
