Negotiations are expected to begin in the second half of June. The EU leadership named the main factor influencing the final decision.
Ukraine is ready to start negotiations on accession to the European Union. This was said by the head of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Policy, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova, reports Ukrainian Radio.
He noted that the start of negotiations is expected in the second half of June.
Maternova emphasized that the main factor influencing the accession of a new country to the EU is the unity of all members of the bloc.
“This is what my colleagues in Ukraine always draw attention to – no matter how small the interests of individual EU member states are, they are important,” he said.
Maternova added that, because of this, she hopes that “at the end of June we will start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.”
“The political signal was sent back in December last year, Ukraine is on the right track, it is ready for negotiations,” the ambassador said.
Earlier it was reported that the European Commission presented a draft negotiation framework for Ukraine.
