The Ombudsman criticized the International Federation of the Red Cross for its reaction to its initial appeal against the Russian organization of the fund.
Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets accused the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) of “becoming a lawyer for Russian criminals.” The official wrote this on Saturday, April 27, in Telegram.
He recalled that he contacted the IFRC based on statements from employees of the Russian branch and its leader’s connection to the Russian “patriotic organization.” The IFRC said there was no Russian organization in the occupied Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine, but “not a word was said that the RKK was operating on the territory of Crimea.”
In addition, the Russian Red Cross stole the property of the national Red Cross Society of Ukraine in Crimea, Lubinets wrote and added that the Ukrainian organization demands that these actions be condemned. At the same time, the Ombudsman said that the Russian Red Cross cooperated with the Artek camp in temporarily occupied Crimea.
“It was also said that sanctions were imposed on the director of this camp for participating in the deportation of Ukrainian children. At the same time, the conclusions of the federation only say that “the cooperation of the RKK with the Artek camp requires serious changes . These words look pathetic “- wrote Lubinets.
The audit showed that “some individuals” from RKK made political statements that did not correspond to the principles of the organization. Lubinets wrote that the head of the organization in the Russian Federation allegedly “no longer has anything to do with political organizations,” but this does not mean a change in his views.
At the same time, a group of federations created to review the actions of the Russian Red Cross will present its findings in the next four months.
“I consider such actions on the part of the IFRC directly included in the aggression of the Russian Federation that international organizations cannot quietly play along with the aggression of Russia, otherwise it does not help, but I only believe that the IFRC, an organization with an international reputation, has become a lawyer for Russian criminals,” – Lubinets emphasized.
He also said that new IFRC President Kate Forbes is willing to meet with him, and that he plans to raise these issues during the meeting.
In the past, the media reported that employees of the Russian Red Cross were illegally traveling to the occupied territories and supporting the aggression against Ukraine, and were also involved in the abuse of captured Ukrainians.
