Ukraine held negotiations with Qatar on the return of Ukrainian children abducted by the Russians. Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets announced this on Thursday, April 25.
It is reported that the list contains the names of 561 children who were illegally brought by the occupiers to Russia, and it is being processed by the Russian side.
“In two days we have some results of negotiations with Qatar, I will again refute the propaganda of the Russian Federation: we are conducting negotiations through the mediation of Qatar, there are no direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia,” said of the message.
The discussion is particularly about the return of so-called “status” children: orphans, children deprived of parental care.
“We emphasize that according to the law there is no difference between biological parents and official adoptive parents or guardians therefore, the Russian Federation is obliged to return the children, regardless of their status also agreed Qatar to accept the first list of orphans and children deprived of parental care and to settle issues regarding their return to Ukraine “I would like to note that, according to our data, there may be more than 3,600 such child,” said the ombudsman.
Lubinets added that Qatar agreed to participate in negotiations with the Russian Federation on the return of civilians illegally detained by the invaders.
We remind you that the Ukrainian authorities have identified almost 20 thousand children kidnapped by Russia.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ombudswoman Maria Lvova-Belova for the deportation of Ukrainian children.
