Ivanov was detained as part of a case under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. He was responsible for military procurement and construction.

Journalist Farida Rustamova notes that Ivanov “is known to the general public as one of the richest security officials.”
“Perhaps this is the highest suspect in terms of the power hierarchy since the beginning of the war,” she adds.

Ivanov has held the position of Deputy Minister of Defense since 2016. He is responsible for the purchase of military products and is engaged in the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of Ministry of Defense facilities, including in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
