A combat trainer based on the L-39C could be used as a light attack aircraft, Defense Express said.
Lithuania transfers L-39ZA Albatross light attack aircraft to Ukraine. Defense Express spoke in more detail about this aircraft on Sunday, April 21.
The media said it was a combat training aircraft based on the L-39C, which could in fact be used as a light attack aircraft.
The L-39ZA aircraft, according to its “passport” characteristics, is designed for a combat load of 1,100 kilograms, and has four hardpoints where blocks for unguided rockets or aerial bomb.
The armament of the L-39ZA also includes a 23-mm GSh-23L double-barreled aircraft cannon with 150 rounds of ammunition.
In other respects, the L-39ZA is generally identical to the basic L-39C Albatros.
Military Balance 2023 states that there are two active users of the L-39ZA in Europe: Slovakia with two aircraft in service, one in storage, and Bulgaria with a total of six aircraft, all currently undergoing modernization.
According to open source, one L-39ZA is in storage in Lithuania.
Bulgaria has ordered an upgrade for all six L-39ZAs with a service life extension of 7.5 years, or an additional 1,500 flight hours, so that the aircraft can be used as “flying desks” for F-16 training.
We have already reported that Lithuania has transferred a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which includes an aircraft.
Let’s add that on April 11, Lithuania announced the transfer of military aid to Ukraine. Then the Ukrainian Armed Forces received anti-drone systems, generators and folding beds.
